Office Wall Refresh – just a little paint
Behind me is an expanse of plain gray wall. Very neutral. Flat.
I can’t work like this. Ok, that’s dramatic, I admit it. As a creative person at heart, I need more than just a plain gray wall backdrop. Some readers are thinking: uh, didn’t you already write this post? And truthfully, I did…kinda. I previously shared a paint project transforming a different gray wall. No, I do not have gray throughout my whole house. Anyways, this is a new project in a new room. I wanted to try something different than the cup painting I did before. I admit that I like the cup painting results better. The higher contrast between the gray wall and the blue circles is more my style.

This room is more visible to guests in our house, so I wanted to go with a more subtle design. Gray on gray. I created a template to paint the up-arrow design. Using a pop case that I disassembled to be flat, I created four arrows equally spaced apart. I then used a straight edge and exacto knife to cut the design out of the cardboard.
There are several kinds of exacto knives available, you can see many options on Amazon through my affiliate link (if you chose to buy any of these, I earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

You can see on my template that I had to reinforce one corner with tape. This is a spot where seams on the original box came together. I was worried that the paint would further degrade that spot and create an issue in my template.
While I am happy with how the wall turned out, I also learned some things I would do differently. My laziness got ahead of me. I didn’t use a ruler or tape or anything to guide me in straight lines. Gulp. Typically I’m pretty good at eyeballing things to be straight (well, close enough anyway). I think it’s obvious that my skill failed me on this project. This did lead me to adding in some arrows that are in sets of two instead of four. I was able to easily do this by only using two of the arrow slots.

If you aren’t interested in making your own template, there are lots of options available online. Checkout the variety of designs on Amazon at this affiliate link (again, if you choose to purchase, no additional cost to you).
I highly recommend this project. It’s a fast and easy way to update a wall or a room, regardless of whether you make your own template or purchase one. I used paint I already had at home, making this a no-cost project for me.
Happy decorating!
