Over a decade ago I was struggling with my diet. Stomach aches, rocks in my belly, migraines, generally I just didn’t feel well. While I wasn’t officially diagnosed with Celiac disease, the doctor recommended I go on a gluten free diet. Honestly, I felt better, at least for a while. Going gluten free was incredibly challenging, but I learned a lot along the way. Some things became more routine and easier to navigate with experience.

Now, more than 10 years later, I feel yucky again a lot of the time. Less than ideal, that’s for sure. I was talking with a work colleague who had been gluten free a majority of her life. She had twin daughters and learned that her body was now able to process gluten – no issues, no hold backs, just eat whatever gluten you want. I’ll admit, I was jealous. I was also very curious, I had two babies (not twins of course) and I was feeling kinda yucky again anyway. So, what the heck. I started eating gluten again. Crazy thing, I didn’t feel any worse.

I was reintroducing my love-affair with gluten. I was still feeling yucky. It was the same level of yucky as without gluten. I tried to keep track of what I had eaten when I didn’t feel good. Sad news, dairy seemed to be playing a role. Well, bye-bye dairy…mostly.

I felt a bit sad for all of the gluten foods I had missed out on. But I know that I am lucky. I am able to eat gluten again. This change makes a lot of things easier, even if I am limiting dairy.
